Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Until January 2nd, 2024, the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) found 204 internet violations, or for 36 days during the election campaign period. All of the content violations were found by cyber patrols, through Bawaslu Intelligent Media Monitoring (IMM), and community report analysis.
“The 204 contents have violated Article 280 paragraph 1 letter c Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections in conjunction with Article 28 paragraph 1 and paragraph 2 of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions,” says member of Bawaslu Lolly Suhenty quoted from Antara on Thursday (1/4/2024).
Lolly said that there are three categories of internet content violation in election campaigns, such as hate speech, race politicization, and hoax news spreading. Among the 204 violations, Lolly reveals that 95% of those are hate speech contents, followed by racism content and hoax news.
Furthermore, she adds that most of the violations occurred in Instagram social media with 72 contents, followed with 69 contents in Facebook, 54 contents in Twitter, seven contents in TikTok, and YouTube with the least amount of violations with only two contents.
In addition, Lolly says that the hazardous content mostly targeted the presidential and vice-presidential candidate with 196 contents while the rest 8 contents aimed for the election organizer institutions.
In enforcing the law against the 204 content violations, 185 of them have been communicated with the Communication and Information Ministry to be taken down.
Following the case, Bawaslu implores the public to jointly monitor the digital space by reporting the contents that contain hoax, racism, or hate speech elements.
