Inp.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. The Rokan Hilir Sub-Regional Police foiled the attempt of 11 Rohingya individuals and 11 Indonesian citizens to illegally cross into Malaysia, arriving from Labuhan Batu, North Sumatra, via land routes.
Police Superintendent Andrian Pramudianto, Chief of Rokan Hilir Sub-Regional Police, revealed the group, initially suspected as illegal Indonesian migrant workers, was spotted around 3am on Wednesday (3/1/2024).
"They planned to cross to Malaysia through Panipahan Darat Islands in Rokan Hilir District. We received information about the alleged crime of human trafficking," he said.
He further mentioned the arrest of two orchestrators, identified as MM (44) and HA (37), both residents of Labuhan Batu. "Each victim paid IDR 5.5 million for the journey to Malaysia on a motorboat," he said.
The Indonesian human trafficking victims were taken to Bangko Sector Police Station for investigation, while the Rohingya victims were handed over to immigration authorities.
