Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) invites the youths to jointly prevent hoaxes ahead 2024 elections. It cannot be avoided that hoax news is the most threatening potentials that could disrupt 2024 elections.
Bawaslu member, Herwyn JH Malonda, implores the youths to confirm all news received, in the internet particularly.
He says that Gen Z as the young voters, has the highest contacts with social media. He then explains the importance of being aware with their surrounding and also with what’s happening today, and the necessity to confirm the news before spreading it to others.
“Don’t share if you have not checked the facts. Before we share the news, we have to filter it first,” he said in his official statement on Friday (10/27/2023).
He explains that election monitoring cannot be separated from community involvement, particularly the youths.
“One of the realest forms of democracy is electing our leaders through elections. Bawaslu has the responsibility to monitor, and we invite all elements of the society to be involved because we cannot monitor the whole election alone,” he said.
Moreover, he states that Bawaslu will continue to involve public in their participatory monitoring program. Herwyn says this measure could suppress violations during elections.
“We have to ensure the voters data are valid and comprehensive. We also urge the logistics to be arrived on time, and no ballot forgery. Lastly, during the vote counting, we will intensify our monitoring to prevent vote manipulations,” conclude Herwyn.
