Inp.polri.go.id - Belitung. The Belitung Su-regional Police reinforced law enforcement warnings against illegal land burning as forest and land fire  incidents in Belitung Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands, reached 305 cases with 442.03 hectares affected up to September 2026.

Data from the Belitung Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded 146 fire events burning 215.84 hectares in August 2026 alone, followed by 26 additional incidents burning 72.70 hectares between 1 September 2026  and 6 September 2026.

Belitung Police Chief Superintendent Satria Darma highlighted strict criminal prosecution for anyone caught clearing land using fire outside applicable regulations.

"Clearing land by burning forests clearly violates the law. If violations are found, we will take firm legal action with criminal sanctions," he said on Tuesday (8/9/2026)

Chief Satria urged local residents to abandon traditional slash-and-burn farming practices, highlighting the dangerous health impacts on school-aged children, including acute respiratory infections.

While no intentional arson cases have been proven so far, police and joint teams engaged in a five-hectare land fire fighting in Sungai Samak Village, Badau District, on 5 September 2026, while ensuring equipment and personnel remain ready for immediate deployment.
