Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Indonesia National Police’s Bhayangkara Hospital is facing challenges identifying victims of the Glodok Plaza fire in West Jakarta due to the severely burned condition of the remains.

“The victims are badly burned, making visual identification impossible,” said Senior Superintendent Ahmad Fauzi, the INP Head of the Disaster Victim Identifcation (DVI) Unit on Sunday (19/1/2025).

The fire, classified as an "open disaster," complicates the process, as the total number of victims remains uncertain. The area is a public space, and unreported individuals may have been present, according to antaranews.com.

Bhayangkara Hospital has received eight body bags and collected DNA samples from 14 families of the missing. Post-mortem and ante-mortem data will be compared to confirm identities, which could take one to two weeks due to the challenging condition of the evidence.

“Our facilities and staff are fully equipped, but verifying ante-mortem data remains a hurdle,” Chief Ahmad said.
