Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has launched Weather Modification Operations (OMC) at three command posts in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra to reduce rainfall during emergency relief efforts for widespread floods and landslides.
“We are working to ensure that rescue operations and logistical drops are not disrupted by extreme weather or high rainfall,” said BMKG Chief Teuku Faisal Fathani on Monday (1/12/2025). “We disperse NaCl to shift rainfall away from vulnerable areas.”
The OMC, which lasts until Wednesday, is centered at Sultan Iskandar Muda Meteorological Station (Aceh), Kualanamu Post (Medan), and Minangkabau International Airport Post (Padang). BMKG is also deploying Calcium Oxide (CaO) in high-risk zones to break up potential rainfall. Five aircraft are currently conducting flights across the three posts.
BMKG urged regional administration to promptly declare emergency status upon receiving early warnings so OMC can be activated.
