Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A fire broke out at RSU Pemasyarakatan Cipinang Penitentiary General Hospital in East Jakarta on Monday morning (1/12//2025), prompting the evacuation of 28 patients and the deployment of dozens of firefighters. 

The incident, reported around 7.10 am, was allegedly triggered by an electrical short circuit in a second-floor storage room.

“The early extinguishing attempt failed because the fire had already spread quickly,” said East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Operations Chief Abdul Wahid, as quoted by antaranews.com

Twelve fire trucks and 60 personnel arrived within minutes, containing the blaze by 7.45 am and declaring it fully extinguished at 8.31 am. Officials from the Directorate General of Corrections confirmed the situation was under control by 7.40 am with no casualties reported.

Authorities said the fire started in a logistics storage area used for cleaning supplies and patient beds. The RSU Pemasyarakatan Cipinang Penitentiary General Hospital is now undergoing recovery, with routine electrical inspections urged to prevent similar incidents.
