Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning for high waves in Indonesian waters on 3-4 February 2024.
BMKG forecaster Samuel R. Adiprabowo stated that in northern Indonesia, winds move north-northeast at speeds of 4 to 25 knots, while in the south, winds move southwest to northwest at speeds of 4 to 25 knots.
"The highest wind speeds are observed in the waters of Sangihe Islands, Selayar Islands, Flores Sea, South Indian Ocean from Kupang to Rote Island, Banda Sea, and Arafura Sea," he said, as reported by Tempo on Saturday (3/1/24).
These conditions may result in waves rising to 1.25 to 2.5 meters in various regions, including the western Indian Ocean off Sumatra, the western and southern sections of the Sunda Strait, and the southern waters of Java and Bali.
"Waves higher in the range of 2.5 to 4.0 meters are possible in the North Pacific Ocean off Halmahera," he concluded.
