inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and local governments are optimizing the housing waiting fund (DTH) assistance scheme and accelerating the construction of temporary housing for disaster-affected communities in Sumatra, with a target completion date of Ramadan.

"BNPB, together with local governments, continues to accelerate the construction of temporary housing, with the primary target of completion before Ramadan," said Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, on Monday (1/19/2026).

He stated that of the 50,367 severely damaged housing units, BNPB recorded that applications for temporary housing had reached 27,818 units. As of mid-January 2026, 6,063 units were still under construction, while 871 units had been completed and ready for occupancy by affected residents.

In addition to temporary housing, Abdul revealed that applications for permanent housing construction are also ongoing. A total of 11,736 permanent housing units have been submitted, with 648 currently under construction.

In addition to housing, BNPB is also optimizing the DTH assistance scheme to ensure that people's basic needs are met during the transition to permanent housing. As of mid-January 2026, DTH applications had reached 15,346 families.

Of these, 10,717 recipient accounts have been prepared, and DTH assistance has been distributed to 2,695 affected families.

Furthermore, to expedite emergency response and minimize the risk of subsequent disasters, the BNPB is also conducting Weather Modification Operations (OMC) in several areas prone to wet hydrometeorological disasters in Sumatra.
