inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) is optimizing firefighting operations at the Jatiwaringin Landfill in Tangerang Regency, Banten, by extending the working hours of the land-based task force until 10:00 PM.
BNPB's Director of Emergency Operations Control, Djohan Darmawan, explained that extinguishing the land-based fire at the landfill requires special handling because the material's characteristics resemble those of peatland smoldering within the waste pile.
"Starting today, firefighting operations will be optimized until 10:00 PM for the land-based task force. The Fire Department and Manggala Agni teams will use an injection system with machines to inject water into the waste pile," said Director Djohan, Tuesday (7/7/2026).
He explained that the subsurface injection method is combined with surface spraying by the land-based task force, while the air-based task force conducts water bombing to completely extinguish the flames.
The smooth supply of water for both ground and air firefighting efforts was greatly facilitated by the availability of a lake or reservoir located near the Jatiwaringin Landfill fire site.
This water source facilitated the water-bombing helicopter's ability to fill large buckets and expedited the distribution of water to fire hoses in the field.
In this tactical operation, the firefighting area within the Jatiwaringin Landfill was strictly divided into three main operational sectors: the north, central, and south, to facilitate personnel coordination.
The joint personnel force in the field was bolstered by elements from the Greater Tangerang Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), BNPB, the Indonesian Military (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (INP), the Manggala Agni Task Force from the Ministry of Forestry, the Ministry of Environment, and disaster relief volunteers.
The joint team was fully supported by a fleet of heavy equipment on the ground, including 19 fire trucks, four water tankers, eight excavators, and eight bulldozers to break down the accumulated embers.
