inp.polri.go.id - Sangatta. The Joint Tiger Team from the East Kutai Sub-regional Police Criminal Investigation Unit, along with the North Sangatta Sector Police Criminal Investigation Unit, uncovered a theft case (3C) involving robbery, burglary, and motorcycle theft that occurred on Padat Karya Street, North Sangatta District.

A man identified as MFA (30) was arrested along with several pieces of evidence.

The discovery was made after police received a report from the victim regarding two thefts at the boarding house where he lived.

The Head of the East Kutai Sub-regional Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Police Senior Inspector Rangga Asprilla Fauza, explained that the first incident occurred on June 10, 2026, at around 1:00 PM, when the victim left his boarding room. Upon returning, he discovered that his two cell phones were missing.

"After examining CCTV footage, a man was seen allegedly scouting the boarding house before committing his crime," he said on Tuesday (7/7/2026).

Several weeks later, the victim again lost a cell phone and a tablet while the boarding house was empty. CCTV footage indicated a theft.

According to him, a joint team then conducted a crime scene investigation, collected CCTV footage from the surrounding area, and analyzed the perpetrator's identity. Based on the investigation, officers identified the alleged perpetrator.

The perpetrator was finally apprehended on A. W. Syahranie street, Sangatta, along with several pieces of evidence. Based on initial questioning, the perpetrator admitted to committing the theft for financial reasons and to fulfill his online gambling needs.

"The evidence that was successfully secured included two cell phones, one tablet, one damaged cell phone, and a Honda Vario motorcycle suspected of being used in the crime," he explained.

East Kutai Sub-regional Police Chief, Superintendent Fauzan Arianto, emphasized that the police will continue to take firm action against any criminal acts that disturb the public. This success demonstrates their commitment to providing a sense of security to the community.

"We appreciate the swift work of the Tiger Team and the North Sangatta Sector Police in solving this case. We also urge the public to be more careful and immediately report any evidence of or victims of criminal activity, so that the police can take swift action," said Fauzan.
