The National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) improvement for correctional officers in guiding vulnerable groups (women, children, and teenagers) who are in rehabilitation for terrorist criminal actions will be their priority program. BNPT Deputy for Enforcement and Capacity Building, Inspector General Ibnu Suhaendra reveals that the capabilities improvement will be conducted through Training and Improving the Capacity of Correctional Officers in Handling Prisoners for Terrorism Crimes which will take place on 19-21 March 2024. “We aim to improve our member capabilities from Directorate General of Corrections as part of our effort in supporting the guidance program, particularly for women, children, and teenagers arrested for terrorist activities,” says Ibnu on Friday (3/22/2024). According to him, handling prisoners involved in terrorist activities proved to be challenging. Correctional officers are demanded to be able to purify them from the extremist ideologist that has been stuck with them the whole time. “Officers are challenged to purify the inmates from the violent ideology they firmly believed and for them to be able to accept other groups,” says Ibnu. Ibnu assessed that terrorist inmates cannot be put on the same pedestal as the other inmates, particularly for women, children and teenagers. (ad/inp/pr/nm)
