Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) and the Ministry of Communication and Digital have taken down 180,954 radical and extremist content items from social media platforms this year.
The majority were linked to terrorist networks such as ISIS, JAD, HTI, and JAT, officials confirmed Monday (23/12/2024).
BNPT Chief Commissioner General Eddy Hartono revealed that Instagram hosted the most flagged content, with 86,203 posts removed, followed by Facebook (45,449) and TikTok (23,595). Other platforms targeted include Twitter/X (9,535), WhatsApp (8,506), and Telegram (4,751), according to antaranews.com
Chief Eddy noted that Telegram is frequently used by extremist groups for propaganda due to its large group capacity, emphasizing ongoing coordination with the platform to enforce regulations.
Under Indonesia’s Anti-Terrorism Law, planning acts of terrorism is punishable, making digital surveillance a priority.
The agency is also mapping areas vulnerable to radicalism and terrorism. While specifics remain confidential, Chief Eddy affirmed this intelligence is vital for effective countermeasures
