Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) attributes the shift in terrorist cells movement patterns and a decrease in their attacks within Indonesia to the extensive law enforcement efforts implemented by the police. "Terrorist cells have changed their movement pattern from a hard approach to a soft approach, employing religious attire as a facade. Beneath the surface, they engage in extensive and structured ideological movements," said the Head of BNPT Commissioner General Rycko Amelza Dahniel Rycko in a press statement on Thursday (13/7/23). He likened the decrease in terrorist attacks between 2018 and 2022 to the visible tip of an iceberg. These terrorist groups no longer openly manifest their existence through physical assaults, he said. These terrorist religious narratives have a significant influence on many individuals, and it is disconcerting to discover that some consciously endorse violence in the name of religion. "No religion advocates violence. (No religion) cannot accept differences," he said. He asserted that collaboration among relevant stakeholders is pivotal in severing the chains of radicalism and terrorism. All segments of society must actively participate in prevention efforts. "In addressing issues and social phenomena like this, we cannot work in isolation. Multi-stakeholder collaboration is a must, we must all join forces," he concluded. (ndt/hn/um)
