Inp.polri.go.id - Bali. The Bali Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights is investigating allegations made by an Australian national named Monique Louise Shuterland regarding an extortion incident during the immigration process at Bali Ngurah Rai Airport. Baron Ichsan, the Head of the Immigration Division at the Bali Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, explained that the claims made by Monique in the Australian media remain unverified. Despite their diligent attempts to reach out to her and her mother through various channels including social media, email, and messaging applications like WhatsApp, no response has been received. He said that her phone number and email address were obtained after conducting an investigation at the accommodation where they stayed during their vacation in Bali. In an attempt to obtain direct testimonies from her and gather evidence regarding the allegation of extortion amounting to 1.500 Australian dollars during the immigration examination, the authorities have made these efforts. Additionally, Baron's office has conducted an investigation into the three ground-handling personnel of Batik Air Malaysia. These personnel were assigned to accompany and assist with the special examination conducted by the Immigration department for her, who arrived in Bali using a visa on arrival (VOA). "Based on the results of the Examination Report (BAP) of the three ground handling personnel, it has been stated that her claims are untrue. They have confirmed that they did not request any money from her, and this is supported by the BAP and statements from the Batik Air ground handling personnel," he explained. Previously, a video went viral on social media where the Australian citizen claimed to have been extorted upon arrival in Bali on June 5, 2023. The story gained attention after the Australian media reported it on July 9, 2023. (ndt/hn/um)
