Inp.polri.go.id - Semarang. The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) praised the Sekolah Damai (School of Peace) program as a groundbreaking initiative to promote tolerance and counter violent extremism in schools through creative, participatory, and collaborative methods.

BNPT Chief Commissioner General Eddy Hartono highlighted the program's success in enhancing resilience among youth, a group often targeted by extremist influences. 

“This program builds students’ resistance to extremist ideologies while fostering peace and tolerance,” he said during his visit to SMAN 13 Semarang high school on Thursday (12/12/2024), as quoted by antaranews.com..

Launched by the Wahid Foundation in 2017, Sekolah Damai has expanded to several provinces, including Java, with strong support from local governments and the Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Justice 2 (AIPJ 2).

It currently operates in 79 schools in Central Java, with SMAN 13 Semarang recognized as a standout model.

Designated a Champion Story in the National Action Plan for Countering Extremism (RAN PE) 2024, the program serves as a blueprint for broader implementation across Indonesia, supporting RAN PE’s next phase (2025–2029).

The visit concluded with dialogues and awards recognizing educators and students for their contributions to fostering peaceful and inclusive school environments.
