Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Commissioner General Mohammed Rycko Amelza Dahniel, the Head of the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT),  warned against the clandestine growth of terrorism ideologies, emphasizing their proliferation within society, beyond surface appearances.

He stressed on Tuesday (23/4/2024) that counterterrorism efforts extend beyond law enforcement, with BNPT tasked to identify and educate all segments of society about potential terrorism threats, as reported by antaranews.com.

Chief Rycko emphasized the need for collaboration among various societal elements and government organizations to proactively identify and prevent terrorism, involving the entire community in building preventive measures.

He highlighted BNPT's pivotal role in coordinating counterterrorism efforts and preventing radicalism and intolerance. 

Despite no open terrorist attacks in Indonesia in 2023, Chief Rycko warned against complacency, citing the hidden nature of terrorist movements.

Underneath the surface, there was an increase in consolidation and radicalization, resulting in the arrest of 148 suspected terrorists by Special Detachment 88 Antiterror (Densus 88) last year, primarily from Jemaah Islamiyah Indonesia (JII) and Jamaah Ansaarut Daulah (JAD) groups, he said,
