Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The North Sumatra Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Agung Setya Imam Effendi, stressed that drugs are the main driver of crime in the region. 

Speaking in Medan on Tuesday (23/4/2024), he emphasized the need for strong internal management within law enforcement to tackle this issue. 

Collaborating with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and other stakeholders, efforts are underway to effectively combat the drug problem, as reported by antaranews.com.

Chief Agung highlighted the significant role of drug use in various crimes, such as snatch theft and traffic accidents. 

In 2023, the North Sumatra Police uncovered 5,225 drug cases involving 6,570 suspects and seized substantial amounts of illicit substances. 

After intensified enforcement, crime rates have decreased by 22.37% in the past six months, preventing millions from drug-related harm, he said.
