Inp.polri.go.id - Garut. After a 6.5 magnitude earthquake, later revised to 6.2, struck Garut, West Java, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) closely monitored the region's impact.
Head of BPBD Garut Aah Anwar Saefuloh said early on Sunday morning (28/4/2024) that his office has been tracking developments to ensure public safety.
Despite the quake, the situation calmed down, with the BPBD teams remaining vigilant.
Aah urged local residents to stay calm and alert, as reported by antaranews.com.
Garut Sub-regional Police's Water and Air Police Unit (Satpolairud) also ensured coastal safety, reporting normal sea conditions.
Residents felt strong tremors, even awakening those asleep. Tremors were felt in highland areas too, but no significant damage was reported.
The earthquake's epicenter was at sea, 151 km southwest of Garut, at a depth of 10 km, according to BMKG.
