Inp.polri.go.id - Yogyakarta. The National Health Insurance Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) is facing more than Rp10 trillion (US$620 million) in unpaid premiums from 23 million participants, according to its President Director Ali Ghufron Mukti.
Speaking at Ahmad Dahlan University in Yogyakarta on Saturday (18/10/2025), he confirmed the government is preparing a debt forgiveness scheme to allow financially struggling participants to rejoin the program without their old debts.
“Currently, arrears have exceeded Rp 10 trillion. Many of these participants genuinely cannot pay, no matter how much we pursue them,” said Ali Ghufron, as quoted by antaranews.com
He praised the government’s plan, describing it as “a realistic way to give people a fresh start.”
The final decision, Ali Ghufron added, will be announced by President Prabowo Subianto or the Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment after internal discussions.
State Secretary and Presidential Spokesperson Prasetyo Hadi previously said the government is verifying participant data before launching the policy, which is expected to roll out later this year.
