The Commander of Indonesian National Police (INP) Mobile Brigade Corps, Commissioner General Imam Widodo, issued a public apology after an armored tactical vehicle driven by seven Brimob officers struck and killed online motorcycle taxi driver Affan Kurniawan during Thursday night’s protest near the House of Representatives (DPR) complex.
“On behalf of myself and as Brimob Commander, I apologize to the late Affan’s family and to the people of Indonesia,” he said in a press conference at INP Headquarters on Friday (29/8/2025) ,expressing condolence and, praying for the victim and strength for his family.
Commander Imam confirmed that all legal proceedings will be handled by the INP;s Internal Affairs Division. The incident occurred in the Pejompongan area, CentralJakarta, after clashes erupted when police dispersed protesters around the parliament.
INP Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo also personally apologized to the victim’s family during a visit to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital early Friday.
