Inp.polri.go.id - Tanjung Selor. The North Kalimantan Regional Police held an absentee funeral prayer, known as shalat ghaib, and joint prayer to honor Affan Kurniawan, an online motorcycle taxi driver who died during Thursday’s protest in Jakarta.
“Today, all police ranks, including the North Kalimantan Regional POlice and local police offices, performed shalat ghaib together as a mark of respect and prayer for the late Affan Kurniawan,” said North Kalimantan Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Budi Rachmat on Friday (29/8/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The incident occurred when an armored tactical vehicle attempted to disperse protesters in Pejompongan, Jakarta, and ran over Kurniawan, leading to his death.
The prayer was held at Nuraryaguna Mosque in the North Kalimantan Police headquarters, led by cleric Hasan Ubaidillah, and attended by Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General Soeseno Noerhandoko, senior officers, personnel, and local residents.
