Traffic Unit of Bukittinggi Police able to took action against 391 violators during Singgalang Zebra Operation that took place for four days from 4 to 7 September 2023. “We have put 391 violators to order during our four days operation. 118 violators were given ticket while the other 273 were only reminded,” said Head of Bukittinggi Traffic Unit, Police Commissioner Adjutant Ghanda Novidiningrat on Thursday (9/7/2023). He explained that most of the violations are committed by two-wheeled vehicle due to use of loud exhaust, drivers not wearing helmet, or going against the traffic flow. Meanwhile, he revealed there is no traffic accidents occur during the operation. However, he still reminds the people to always obey the law on the road. “Traffic law must be obeyed not only when we are doing an operation or when we inspecting the road. It should be obeyed anytime to prevent incidents. Many incidents occur because people did not obey the traffic law,” stressed Ghanda. According to him, the operation still held directly as the electric ticketing is still unavailable. Furthermore, he stated that most of the violations occur in Pasar Bawah region, “specifically in the traffic where there are many going against the traffic flow in Perintis Kemerdekaan street”. The operation received positive response from the community and hoped it would be reinforced in remote areas of Bukittinggi. “We often heard people living here in remote areas are disturbed because of the use of loud exhaust and teenagers driving wildly,” said Januar, Bukittinggi locals. Zebra Operation 2023 was held from 4-17 September 2023 in hopes of creating more secure and safe traffic.
