The Drug Use Rate on Indonesian Student Risen Up: BNN

Two international drug network that have been uncovered by Indonesia are those from golden crescent and golden triangle, stated the Head of Indonesia’s National Narcotics Board (BNN) Commissioner General Petrus Reinhard Golose in Denpasar. “The golden triangle is the nickname for opium black market that operates in Myanmar, Thailand and Laos. While the golden crescent is the term for the biggest opium producer in the world including Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan,” said Petrus quoted from antaranews, Thursday (9/7/2023). The BNN chief also stated that the drug use rate for Indonesian student have risen since 2021. The data shows prevalence of Indonesian student in using drugs is only 1.1% in year 2019 and rise up to 1.38% in 2021. “Of the 1,212 types of drug around the world, 92 of them have been circulated in Indonesia, particularly with the circulation of the new drug type NPS (New Psychoactive Substances) which one of them is that gorilla tobacco in Bali,” he said. He stated that the ever-progressing drug types, which one of them is that NPS, proved to be challenging for his parties to uncover. “This drug is quite similar with weed, but it is synthetic. This is what have been circulating in our community with a stronger effect than hard drug,” he said. Petrus said that BNN is the fore-front in battling drugs by implementing Prevention, Eradication Abuse and Illicit Drug Traffics and Narcotics Precursors (P4GN) with one of which are kampus bersinar.
