Damai Cartenz Operation 2023 personnel encountered an interception by a group of unknown individuals (OTK) in Dogiyai as they were escorting a fellow member to Paniai Hospital. "It is true that there was an interception and attack on the members of the operation around 11.00 am local time," said Police Senior Superintendent Donny Charles Go, the Head of Public Relations of the operation, in a written statement on Thursday (13/7/23). He clarified that the personnel was en route to Paniai Hospital to accompany their sick colleague when they were confronted by seven individuals in Idakebo Village, North Kamu District, Dogiyai. One of them opened the car door and unexpectedly hurled a machete at the vehicle, causing the glass to shatter. "One of our members suffered an injury from the machete," he said. The OTK individuals attempted to seize the weapons of the personnel, he added. In response, shots were fired by the members to disperse the OTK and a pursuit ensued towards the mountains. "As a result of this incident, our members suffered injuries to their temples, upper back, and back of the head due to sharp weapons. Additionally, there was damage to the rear window of the car," he said. (ay/hn/um)
