inp.polri.go.id - Ponorogo. The Ponorogo Sub-regional Police Criminal Investigation Unit has uncovered a case of misuse of firearms and ammunition without a permit. Two married couples, identified as MWW (41) and GY (45), residents of Plalangan Village, Jenangan District, were arrested after being found in possession of and intending to sell illegal firearms.

This case stemmed from public information regarding an individual in the Ponorogo area for possessing firearms without authorization.

Following up on the report, Ponorogo Sub-regional Police Operational Officers immediately conducted an on-site investigation.

As a result, officers apprehended a woman identified as MWW near the north exit of the Seloaji Terminal along with evidence in the form of a short-barreled firearm and several live rounds of ammunition.

"From the initial investigation, suspect MWW intended to sell the firearm. She admitted that the weapon and ammunition belonged to her common-law husband, suspect GY," said Ponorogo Sub-regional Vice Police Chief, Police Assistant Superintendent Ari Bayuaji on Monday (11/10/2025).

Following MWW's arrest, police investigated and discovered GY's whereabouts outside the area. Police then arrested GY at a hotel in Depok, West Java, and immediately transported him to Ponorogo for further questioning.

During the investigation, GY admitted to purchasing the firearm from an individual named Gatot, a resident of Ngawi, for IDR 35 million. As of now, Gatot’s true identity and full address are still being investigated.

"We are still investigating the supplier of this firearm. We will investigate the name the suspect mentioned, including the network that distributes illegal firearms across regions," he explained.

The police successfully confiscated several pieces of evidence, namely a short-barreled firearm marked 18TH1940 and 13 rounds of live ammunition marked 32 S&W Long M-M.

The two were charged under Article 1 Paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Emergency Law Number 12 of 1951 in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph (1) point 1 of the Criminal Code, which carries a penalty of life imprisonment or a maximum sentence of 20 years.
