Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. To address the severe consequences of extreme weather causing crop failures in Yahukimo Regency's Amuma District in the Papua Mountains region, the government has sent aid to tackle the impending famine. Lieutenant General Suharyanto, the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), revealed that the Yahukimo Regency administration declared a state of emergency. "We're sending immediate aid," he said after a ministerial meeting at the Ministry of Social Affairs in Jakarta on Wednesday (25/10/2023). The initial famine relief package includes 20 tons of rice, 10,000 ready-to-eat meals, 10,000 packets of protein biscuits, and an operational budget of Rp1 billion. "We've also prepared an aircraft for transportation, given the challenging terrain in the region," General Suharyanto added, as reported by antaranews.com. Apart from addressing the famine, the BNPB will offer assistance to homes affected by landslides in Yahukimo Regency's Anggruk and Penggama Districts. Preliminary data shows around 100 houses impacted, with 70 experiencing minor damage and 30 sustaining severe damage. Homes with minor damage will receive Rp15 million per house in aid, while those with severe damage will receive Rp60 million per house. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
