Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Central Java has taken the lead in the 2024 National Paralympic Games (Peparnas), surpassing West Java in the medal standings as of Wednesday morning. Central Java secured a total of 127 medals, consisting of 50 gold, 41 silver, and 36 bronze. Meanwhile, West Java, now in second place, collected 121 medals, with 40 gold, 40 silver, and 41 bronze.

"Central Java's impressive performance, particularly on Tuesday, resulted in 27 gold medals, pushing them ahead of West Java," said a Peparnas official. The bulk of Central Java’s medals came from para-athletics, contributing 19 gold, 14 silver, and six bronze.

In addition to para-athletics, para-cycling and para-table tennis athletes also significantly boosted Central Java's standing, securing 10 and nine gold medals, respectively.

West Java, on the other hand, only managed to add 18 gold medals on Tuesday, leading to their drop in the rankings.

Riau holds third place with 41 medals, including 13 gold, 9 silver, and 19 bronze.

The 2024 Peparnas, held in Surakarta, Central Java, from 6 to October 2024, involves over 4,600 athletes from 35 provinces competing in 18 sports categories.
