Inp.polri.go.id - Cianjur. The Cianjur Sub-regional Police in West Java have deployed on Thursday (21/3/2024) 400 personnel, around one third of its forces, to curb sarong fights and street violence instigated by motorbike gangs, which have been escalating in several districts. The sarong fights involves teenagers using their sarongs to strike their opponents. According to Cianjur Police Chief Superintendent Aszhari Kuniawan, almost nightly, the police received reports of sarong fights and motorbike gang activities, causing unrest among residents during the fasting month of Ramadan. He explained that the Cianjur Police have intensified patrols and assigned about one-third of the Cianjur Police forces and local police offices  to patrol vulnerable areas after Tarawih evening prayers until dawn. Despite nightly patrols during Ramadan to maintain public order, Chief Aszhari noted that teenage perpetrators often evade capture. Therefore, random patrols with undisclosed schedules will be conducted to address disruptive behavior during Ramadan, including imposing penalties on motorbike gangs carrying weapons, he said. Chief Aszhari called on parents  to increase supervision over their teenagers, prohibiting them from going out after 10 pm. He warned that those caught will face sanctions, ranging from statements to legal penalties. The police have arrested approximately 27 teenagers involved in sarong fights and several others involved in motorbike gangs planning attacks during Ramadan. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
