Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, is considering collaborating with gamers and gaming associations to fight the growing issue of online gambling.
"This is a great suggestion, collaborating with gamers and gaming associations, as many gambling apps are disguised as games," she said on Tuesday (19/11/2024)in Jakarta.
Online gambling has rapidly expanded in Indonesia, from sports betting to virtual casino games, often camouflaged within gaming apps, deceiving unsuspecting users.
Minister Meutya emphasized the importance of working with gamers to educate the public on the difference between online games for entertainment and education, and online gambling.
"We’re engaging relevant groups to join forces in this fight," she added, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The Ministry has already blocked over 315,000 gambling-related online contents from 20 October to 18 November, 2024, across websites, social media platforms, and file-sharing services.
In addition to digital literacy campaigns, the Ministry offers multiple channels for the public to report harmful content, including gambling, through platforms like Aduankonten.id and WhatsApp.
