Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has requested a formal explanation from Meta over concerns about Instagram user data security, following reports of alleged data leaks and mass password reset notifications.
“Meta has explained that the password reset process is an internal mechanism within Instagram’s official system and does not allow any party to access user passwords,” said Alexander Sabar, Director General for Digital Space Supervision, on Friday (16/1/2026), as reported by antaranews.com.
He explained that Meta claimed there is no indication of external misuse of the password reset feature, while investigations into third-party claims of data leakage are ongoing. Alexander emphasized that summoning electronic system providers is mandated under Government Regulation No. 71/2019.
He urged the public to remain calm, verify information, and strengthen account security, while assuring continued supervision to protect personal data and national digital security.
