Denpasar Sub-Regional City Police Charges Irish National with Multiple Offenses

The Denpasar Sub-Regional City Police have charged an Irish national, Matthew Robert Mctruk,36-year-old, with multiple offenses in a fatal hit-and-run case that occurred at the intersection of Sunset Road and Kunti Street in Kuta, Badung, Bali. Matthew has been named a suspect and detained at the Denpasar Sub-Regional City Police Headquarters, Police Senior Superintendent Bambang Yugo Pamungkas, the Chief of Denpasar Sub-Regional City Police stated. "He caused the accident and did not provide assistance to the victim after committing the traffic violation," he said on Monday (31/7/2023). He mentioned that the charges against Matthew include violations of Article 10 paragraph (4) and Article 310 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Traffic and Road Transportation. Based on the examination results, the accident occurred after the suspect, along with two Indonesian friends, had been consuming alcohol in the Seminyak and Legian areas of Kuta. "The driver, MRM, was intoxicated, having consumed beer at three locations," he said. The police suspected that the suspect fled the scene out of panic, he added. "Following the accident, the suspect became aware that one of the victims had died and fled in panic. When approached by the driver of a Yaris vehicle, he took evasive actions, leading him on a circuitous route. Eventually, he arrived at the Ngurah Rai Bypass intersection, then to the Sakenang intersection, and finally ended up at Sanur Beach," he detailed. (ndt/hn/nm)
