Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Task Force for Combating Human Trafficking Crimes (Satgas TPPO) of the Indonesian National Police (INP) and Regional Police offices under the leadership of Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has achieved a significant breakthrough by rescuing 2.221 victims from 732 cases between June 5 and July 30, said the Head of the Public Affairs Bureau of the INP Public Relations Division during a press conference on Wednesday (26/7/23). "Out of the 732 cases, investigators managed to arrest 872 suspects," he added. The investigation shed light on the methods employed by the human traffickers. The most prevalent modus operandi involved enticing victims with false promises of employment opportunities as Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) or Domestic Workers (PRT) with 496 cases. "Next, there were 216 cases involving the use of the Commercial Sex Worker (PSK) modus operandi, 9 cases involving the use of victims as Ship Crew Members (ABK), and 55 cases of exploitation of children," he said. He concluded the press conference by conveying a message from the Chief of INP, emphasizing the need for the public to exercise caution and not be swayed by enticing offers of high-paying jobs, whether within the country or abroad. The Chief of INP also urged the public, he said, to ensure the legitimacy of job placement agencies to guarantee their access to social protection, welfare, and legal rights. (ndt/hn/nm)
