Inp.polri.go.id - Padang. The West Sumatra Regional Police and the Indonesian National Police counterterrorism unit, Densus 88, are investigating an explosion at MAN 3 Islamic high school in Padang on Tuesday (14/7/2026). 

A security guard discovered the suspected homemade bomb, leading authorities to secure a 17-year-old student, identified as R, as the alleged owner of the device.

"The suspect admitted to learning explosive-making online, inspired by the 2025 Jakarta school bombing. The motive is still under deep investigation," said Densus 88 Spokesperson Senior Superintendent  Mayndra Eka Wardhana.

Police seized several items, including a black box, firecrackers, marbles, and bolts, which the suspect reportedly assembled at home without his parents' knowledge. No casualties or injuries were reported, and investigators are questioning witnesses to verify the suspect's involvement in online extremist networks.
