inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago urged all elements of society to maintain peace in Aceh and the stability of Papua by respecting the people's freedom to express their aspirations peacefully.

Djamari stated that expressing aspirations is a public right, but its implementation must remain within the law and not be accompanied by violence or destruction.

"We must safeguard peace in Aceh together. The Red and White Flag and the Garuda Pancasila as national symbols are obligatory for us to respect. In Papua, the people also have the right to express their aspirations peacefully, but this must not be accompanied by violence or violations of the law," he said In his statement in Jakarta on Sunday (8/16/2026).

Regarding Aceh, Djamari stated that the government respects Aceh's uniqueness as stipulated in the law.

According to him, the peace in Aceh that has been maintained for more than two decades is an important achievement that must be continuously maintained through dialogue, brotherhood, and respect for the law.

Meanwhile, regarding developments in Papua, Djamari emphasized that the government respects the people's right to express their aspirations peacefully, as guaranteed by the constitution.

However, he said, this freedom cannot be used as an excuse to commit violence, vandalism, provocation, or any unlawful act.

The government also deplored the unrest during the demonstration in Central Papua, which reportedly resulted in several officers being injured.

"The expression of aspirations must be carried out peacefully and conducively. Do not be easily provoked. Any perpetrators of violence and violations of the law who disrupt public order and security must be dealt with firmly according to the law," he said.
