Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) expressed its high appreciation to the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance, and the Riau Islands Regional Police for their success in thwarting the smuggling of 2.6 tons of liquid methamphetamine into Indonesia.

House Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman called the operation one of the most monumental drug eradication operations ever conducted by law enforcement.

"This is one of the best in history," said Habiburokhman, as quoted by Metro TV, Friday, August 21, 2026.

According to the Gerindra Party politician, the successful seizure of this staggering amount of methamphetamine is clear evidence of the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration in combating international drug networks.

He emphasized that Commission III of the DPR will continue to support and oversee drug eradication efforts as part of the commitment of President Prabowo Subianto's administration.

Previously, the BNN, along with Customs and Excise, and the Riau Islands Regional Police, thwarted the smuggling of 2.6 tons of liquid methamphetamine transported on a Tanzanian-flagged ship. The vessel was intercepted while passing through the waters of Tanjung Parit, Bengkalis, Riau.

BNN Director of Enforcement and Pursuit, Brigadier General Roy Hardi Siahaan, explained that the joint operation was conducted after the team received intelligence information regarding the movement of a vessel suspected of carrying narcotics.

"The BNN then formed a joint operation involving the BNN, Customs, and the Riau Islands Regional Police. We conducted the interception on August 17 at around 6:15 p.m., and then the vessel was towed for inspection," Roy said in an official statement.

This discovery marks one of the largest narcotics seizures in Indonesia and underscores the importance of law enforcement synergy in disrupting cross-border drug smuggling routes.
