Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Justice Supratman Andi Agtas announced on Friday (13/12/2024) that drug traffickers and dealers are excluded from President Prabowo Subianto's proposed amnesty initiative.

"There will be no amnesty for traffickers, let alone major dealers," he emphasized during a press briefing at the Presidential Palace, as reported by antaranews.com..

The amnesty will apply solely to drug users eligible for rehabilitation, specifically those caught with less than 1 gram of narcotics, as per the Supreme Court's guidelines. If this limit is raised to 5 grams, the number of eligible inmates could significantly increase.

President Prabowo has also suggested that eligible productive-age inmates engage in nation-building programs, such as food security training or participation in the national reserve program upon release.

The amnesty proposal aims to address prison overcrowding and provide humanitarian relief. It includes inmates with chronic illnesses, mental health conditions, or minor offenses under the ITE Law, as well as 18 non-combatant inmates involved in Papua-related cases as part of reconciliation efforts.

The plan, endorsed by the President, awaits the House of Representatives (DPR) approval.
