Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Military’s Maritime Task Force (MTF) Garuda Contingent XXVIII-O, part of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), received the LAF Medal from the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) in recognition of their contributions to regional peacekeeping.
Lebanese Navy Commander Rear Admiral Haissam Dannaoui presented the award to Task Force Commander Lieutenant Colonel Wirastyo Haprabu, who also leads KRI Diponegoro-365, during a military ceremony in Beirut on Wednesday.
The LAF Medal reflected appreciation for the TNI's dedication, collaboration, and success in supporting maritime security in Lebanese waters.
"This recognition highlights TNI's commitment to global peace under UN Security Council Resolution 1701," Commander Wirastyo said in his statement on Friday (13/12/2024).
Since early 2024, the task force, including 120 naval personnel, has conducted patrols to prevent illegal arms smuggling and provided training for the Lebanese Navy. Their mission, aimed at ensuring maritime stability, will conclude this year as Contingent XXVIII-P prepares to assume duties.
TNI personnel remain committed to UNIFIL operations despite ongoing tensions in the region.
