Bengkalis Sub-regional Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Amin Fahrian Saleh Siregar, stated that the methamphetamine was suspected to have originated in Malaysia.
"This methamphetamine is suspected to have originated in Malaysia," said Amin in Bengkalis on Wednesday (9/16/2026).
From this discovery, police estimate that approximately 343,546 lives could be saved from potential drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
According to him, the discovery and destruction of this large amount of evidence is part of their efforts to disrupt the chain of drug distribution, particularly networks suspected of being linked to international networks.
"This demonstrates our commitment and seriousness in eradicating illicit drug trafficking. The evidence we have secured is quite substantial, and if it had circulated in the community, it would have had a huge negative impact," he said.
The destruction was carried out by dissolving the methamphetamine in boiling water. The evidence was then flushed down the toilet.
The destruction was also attended by Bengkalis Regent Kasmarni, along with other members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum.
The case was previously uncovered after the police conducted an investigation along the coastline of Bantan Air Village.
A day later, officers discovered a pickup truck driven by a man identified as S, operating suspiciously.
Officers then stopped the vehicle and conducted an inspection and search. During the search, police found four sacks containing 65 packages of suspected methamphetamine.
The police then conducted further investigation and arrested two other individuals, identified as ST and P. Both are suspected of being involved in transporting the drugs from sea to land using motorboats or fishing boats.
Amin emphasized that eradicating narcotics requires cooperation from various parties, not just the police. Collaboration is needed with local governments, the Indonesian National Military (TNI), law enforcement officials, relevant agencies, community organizations, young people, and the community.
