Inp.polri.go.id - Denpasar. The Denpasar Prosecutor’s Office sought a nine-year prison sentence on Tuesday (19/5/2026) for a Dutch man, Nirul Rashim Abdoelrazak, for illegally cultivating hydroponic marijuana in  his rented house in Denpasar, Bali.

Prosecutors argued that the defendant was guilty of violating Indonesia’s 2009 Narcotics Law by managing a residential cultivation site containing over five cannabis plants.

"We demand that the panel of judges sentence the defendant Nirul Rashim Abdoelrazak to nine years in prison, minus time served, and order that the defendant remain in detention," said Prosecutor I Made Lovi Pusnawan, as cited by antaranews.com.

The prosecution also demanded a fine of Rp1 billion, or an additional 80 days of confinement if left unpaid.

The case dates back to 1 October 2025  when Bali Regional Police raided the defendant's rented house in Ubung Kaja, Denpasar. Investigators discovered a specialized indoor hydroponic tent where the defendant had been growing marijuana from seeds since August 2025.
