Inp.polri.go.id - Surabaya. East Java Regional Police have deployed their Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) unit to assist in the evacuation and identification of victims after the collapse of a mushalla building at Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School in Sidoarjo, Indonesia.
The incident occurred Monday afternoon during a concrete casting process.
“DVI has set up a joint post with the rescue team to carry out evacuation and identification,” said East Java Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Jules Abraham Abast on Tuesday (30/9/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
According to the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), an estimated 38 students remain trapped beneath the rubble. As many as 102 students have been evacuated, with 91 escaping on their own and 11 rescued by teams. One student died at the hospital.
Rescue workers, supported by military and police units, are using specialized equipment to access victims despite the dense debris and unstable structure. Authorities have urged crowds to keep a distance to avoid disrupting sensitive rescue operations still underway.
