The Indonesian National Police (INP) Public Relations Division Chief, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho attends the signing of Joint Decree (SKB) of the General Election Commission (KPU), Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI), and the Press Council. The SKB concerns the formation of the 2024 Regional Head Election News Monitoring Task Force.

The Head of INP Public Relations Division Sandi says that the election is an important moment for Indonesia in electing the new regional head. In ensuring the success of such an important event, he proposed the commitment from all parties to work together.

“We from the police, military, Press Council, KPU, Bawaslu, and KPI, along with all public element will work together and collaborate in monitoring the news to maintain public security and order while overseeing the election to go smoothly, safely, and peacefully,” says Sandi on Tuesday (10/22/2024).

On the other hand, the Press Council Chair Ninik Rahayu explains that in the formation of the task force, the presence of INP is needed for the safety of journalists in covering the 2024 Regional Head Election.

“Because there are high chances of threatening, intimidation, and other forms of harassment experienced by our journalists. Thus, we want to thank the police force for the quick action in ensuring the safety of our journalists,” says Ninik.

In addition, Bawaslu Head Rachmat Bagja also states that police have the important role in succeeding the 2024 Regional Head Election. This consideration came following the successful and smooth event of 2024 General Election.

Meanwhile, the Head of KPU M. Afifuddin says the formation of the task force is part of an effort in ensuring a healthy and fair campaign that is ongoing. He saw that media plays an integral role in creating a positive space in social media and in real life.

Lastly, KPI Head Ubaidillah adds that other than the signing of the Joint Decree, a circular letter was also issued  as a guideline for reporting, broadcasting and campaigning of the Regional Head Elections.
