Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported that extreme weather—marked by heavy rains, strong winds, and lightning—has caused significant damage in Yogyakarta and Bogor, West Java, as of mid-May 2025.
In Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, on 9 May 9, fallen trees impacted three villages—Wonosari, Katongan, and Bejiharjo—resulting in one heavily damaged house, 15 lightly damaged homes, and damage to a kiosk, livestock shelter, and retaining wall.
"The strong winds accompanied by lightning caused trees to collapse in multiple locations, damaging both residential and public facilities," said Abdul Muhari, the BNPB’s Head of Data, Information, and Communication, on Sunday (11/5/2025)..
In Bogor, intense weather began 5 May 2025, damaging roofs in Bantarsari, Kota Batu, and Lemah Duhur, affecting 10 households, with emergency supplies and tarpaulins still needed. On 6 May 2025, windstorms hit six more villages, damaging 21 homes, mostly on rooftops, according to antaranews.com.
BNPB urged the public to remain alert during this transitional season and to cut down trees at risk of falling to prevent further hazards.
