Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. A female teacher identified as Melani Wamea was killed after being assaulted by an armed criminal group (KKB) in Holuwon District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Highlands, on Friday (10/10/2025).

“Melani, who worked as a teacher, died from severe injuries after being attacked by the KKB,” said Yahukimo Sub-regional Police Chief Superintendent Zeth Zalino, as quoted by antaranews.com. 

He explained that a witness received a report from one of the victim’s students who saw two men carrying machetes. Upon inspection, the witness found Melani wounded and crying for help.

The victim was evacuated along with three other teachers and construction workers using two MAF aircraft to Wamena, but she succumbed to her injuries during the flight.

Her body has since been flown to Sentani and is now at Bhayangkara Hospital, Jayapura. Authorities are investigating which KKB faction was behind the assault.
