Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A fire that broke out at Kramat Jati Central Market, East Jakarta, on Monday morning (15/12/2025) was suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit at a plastic goods shop, according to initial information from witnesses.

“It started from a plastic shop nearby. I heard an explosion while my truck was parked for unloading,” said Ridwan, a truck driver at the market, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The fire spread rapidly due to the presence of highly flammable materials such as plastic and wood, worsened by strong winds in the area. Within minutes, flames engulfed several adjacent stalls, forcing traders to flee and rescue their goods.

East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Operations Chief Abdul Wahid said that a total of 16 fire engines and 80 personnel were mobilized to prevent the flames from spreading to other sections of the market.

Authorities are still investigating the exact cause and assessing damages, while ensuring no casualties were reported.
