According to the witness statement, the fire first broke out after an explosion from above the house ceiling and the fire grew quickly and spread to other houses.

The Biak Sub-regional Police Public Relations Chief, Second Police Inspector Joko Susilo suspects the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. There were no casualties in the incident, but the loss is estimated to be more than IDR 100,000,000.

"We are fortunate that there are no casualties of this incident, however there are huge loss as two houses and two motorcycles were burned down. The total loss of the first house reached around IDR 100,000,000, while we are still estimating the total loss of the second house," explains Joko.

Joko implores the people of Biak Numfor to remain vigilant and to always to check on their house condition to anticipate incidents. He reminds the public to make sure that their house is safe whenever they are not on watch.

"People are implored to be careful and pay attention to your electric usage in the house. Avoid anything that could cause fire," concluded Joko.
