Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department dispatched 85 personnel to address a fire incident in the Blok M Square shopping center area on Monday (18/12/2023) Syamsul Huda, the Operational Section Head of the South Jakarta Fire Department, confirmed  that the fire erupted at Blok M Square Building in  Kebayoran Baru, around 4.55 pm, with firefighting efforts commencing at 5.05 pm, antaranews.com reported. "Preliminary suspicion points to a short circuit between the Underground floor and the first floor of Blok M Square," he said. Eight firefighting units, assisted by 11 additional units from various sectors in South Jakarta, were deployed to the fire location. "As of now, the fire is under control, and efforts are focused on dissipating the smoke at the scene," Syamsul added. A thick black smoke initially enveloped the Blok M Square area, prompting visitors inside the building to evacuate for safety. Numerous vendors left the mall, carrying their merchandise. As of 7.30 pm WIB, the South Jakarta Fire Department continued cooling efforts and clearing smoke at Blok M Square. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
