Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. West Java was rattled by five earthquakes on Wednesday (20/8/2025) with the strongest, a magnitude 4.9 quake, struck Bekasi in the evening, prompting the suspension of high-speed rail services and temporary halts to other train routes.
“Monitoring shows increasing seismic activity along the Lembang Fault. We urge residents to remain vigilant and strengthen disaster preparedness,” said Teguh Rahayu, the Head of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Bandung Geophysics Station, as reported by antaranews.com.
The Bekasi quake, with its epicenter located 19 kilometers southeast of the city at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, was linked to the West Java back arc thrust. Aftershocks were recorded in Bekasi and Purwakarta.
PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) canceled eight Whoosh high-speed train trips as a safety measure, while state operator PT KAI also halted several routes pending track inspections. Local authorities reported damage in Karawang and the collapse of a prayer hall in Bekasi.
No casualties were confirmed.
