Inp.polri.go.id - Bogor.  President Prabowo Subianto has instructed his ministers to convert unlicensed land into farmland and plantations as part of his administration’s food security agenda.

“The first meeting, attended by directors of state-owned enterprises in agriculture and plantations, discussed the management of plantations, agriculture, and unlicensed land that can immediately be utilized by the state,” Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya said after the closed-door session at the President’s Hambalang residence, Bogor, on Wednesday (20/8/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

The move is in line with President Prabowo’s pledge to boost national food self-sufficiency. In his state address on 15 August 20255, the President announced that Indonesia is now a net exporter of rice and corn, with a record national rice reserve of over four million tons. He credited land expansion, fertilizer distribution reforms, and subsidies for farming equipment as key drivers.

The President stressed that a strong nation must be able to produce its own food, underlining plans to open millions of hectares of new farmland across Kalimantan, Sumatra, Papua, and other regions.
