inp.polri.go.id - Kuningan. The Kuningan Sub-regional Police have named five people as suspects in an alleged illegal logging case in the Mount Ciremai National Park (TNGC) conservation area in Kuningan, West Java.

Kuningan Sub-regional Police Chief, Superintendent Ali Akbar, stated that the suspects were named after investigators conducted a series of investigations and a case conference based on an official report from the TNGC Office.

"We have named five people as suspects in the alleged forest destruction case in the TNGC area. The five suspects have the initials N, NS, A, K, and U," he explained, as reported by antaranews, Friday (1/16/2025).

He explained that the illegal logging incident allegedly occurred on Sunday, December 22, 2025 in the Simaung Block (Grid 19M) of the TNGC Rehabilitation Zone.

The incident occurred in Singkup Village, Pasawahan District, Kuningan Regency, which is a state-protected conservation forest area.

According to him, the suspects are known to be farmers, self-employed, and private employees residing in Pasawahan District, Kuningan Regency.

Ali explained that the case began with a report from TNGC officers who suspected illegal logging in the forest area.

Following up on the report, a joint team from the Kuningan Sub-regional Police, the TNGC Center, and the Indonesian National Military (TNI) conducted an investigation and took action in the field.

"The suspects were arrested on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at around 11:00 a.m. while allegedly cutting and transporting rosewood using a chainsaw," Ali explained.

He further revealed that as a result of this act, the TNGC suffered an estimated loss of around IDR 34.4 million, with one chainsaw and several rosewood logs confiscated as evidence.

In his closing statement, he emphasized that the suspects are now being charged under Law Number 18/2013 concerning the Prevention and Eradication of Forest Destruction, which carries a minimum prison sentence of one year and a maximum of five years.
